Activities in Speaking V Class

I. Introduction
Language is important in our life which is used to communicate each others helping understand something that is not known yet. Besides, language has important role to develop our knowledge and science. According Wardhough, “a language is what the member of particular society speak” (Wardhough, 1977: 1). Therefore language is very important for communication in our social life, and also important for our relation to other.
There are many languages in this world, but English is the important one. English is the international language which is almost used as the second language in all the country in the world. English as second language for most of the people of the world has increasingly the international language for business and commerce, science, technology, international relations and diplomacy.
English in Indonesia is a foreign language. There are four skills in learning English. The four skills are reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Among the four skills, speaking is assumed as the key of the mastery of these skills, someone is said to successful in learning language if he or she can speak the language fluently. As Nunan (1991: 51) writes that two most people, mastering the art of speaking is the single most important aspect of learning a second or foreign language, and success is measured in term of the ability to carry out a conversation in the (target)language.

II. Definition of Speaking
Speaking is a fundamental to human communication many activity start from speaking if we do not speak, we can late from anything. According to Webster (1983: 17-40), to speak is to give oral expression to thoughts, opinion and feeling engaged in talk or conversation
In a broad meaning, speaking is more than producing words or sounds. Speaking is way to communicate the idea that is arranged and developed on the basis on the speaker’s need.
Speaking can be defined as one of the important skills that have to be mastered by the learners. Learners must be able to express ideas, wishes, opinions, attitudes, and information orally. Therefore, they should have sufficient knowledge of the sounds, structure, vocabulary, and cultural subsystem of the English language.
Speaking can be said as an ability to use the language in spoken form. The goal of a theory of speaking or speech production is to explain and empirically test how speakers use the knowledge, linguistics and others, in the production of utterances.

III. Speaking V
Since English department of Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa established, it has been making attempt to help the students to improve their speaking competence. The attempt is by giving speaking class, students of English department in Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa get speaking class from the 1st semester until the 5th semester or it can say the students of English department in Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa get speaking from speaking 1 until speaking 5.
Now we will discuss about speaking 5 class. As the writer said before, students of English department in Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa get speaking class from the first until the fifth. It means students must be passed the previous speaking class to join the last speaking class which is speaking 5. Students of speaking 5 classes of course should be better in speaking English as the foreign language because they have been learning speaking for two years and many subjects which are related in learning English as a second language.
In the last speaking class or speaking 5 students improve their speaking skill by making some presentation. After that the students explain about their topics. Finally there is a time for students to have questions and answer session. In that session student who explained their topic will be get some questions from audience (other students) and lecturer, and he or she must answer the entire question clearly. To be a good presenter student must be well references and having appropriate resources.
Development of speaking needs a lot of speaking practice because if you are wanted to learn speak is by speaking. That is what we do in speaking class; speak in front of the class. The activities in speaking 5 class help students practice speaking. Presentation in front of the class help us encourage ourselves to speak in front of the class. We can also share some information and knowledge with our friends from the topics which have been discussed.

IV. Conclusion
English is an international language so; it is used in many countries around the world. In order to communicate with foreigner we should master English well, in learning English therefore, we should learn speak by speaking. By having speaking ability in order to communicate with foreigner we can speak English fluently.
